In Marzahn, eastern Berlin, a new block of 153 rental apartments has been built, 84 of them barrier-free. The building meets the KfW 55 energy standard and is supplied by a district heating network. Watts supplied the HIU2 HKM heat interface units (May 2025).
How it works
Heat is supplied centrally and each apartment's unit passes it on to the underfloor heating. Domestic hot water is produced instantly, only when needed, so there is no storage tank. According to Watts, this avoids extra legionella protection measures and meets the requirements of the German Drinking Water Ordinance at no additional cost. The hot water temperature is precisely controlled and consumption can be metered separately for each apartment.
The products
- HIU2 HKM units with 12 l/min hot water tapping capacity.
- HKV2013A stainless-steel underfloor heating manifold.
- 22CX thermoelectric actuators.
- WFC-03 H+ control unit.
Installation
The HIU and the manifold are fitted in a flush-mounted cabinet. Thanks to a pre-assembled ball valve strip, the cabinet goes in during the shell construction phase, while the unit itself is fitted after walls and floors are finished.
